In the past Theo has told me that I am American like his mother and he is British like his father. This year I broke the sad news to him that he is 1/2 American. He responded with a sigh, Yes, grandma I know that.

On my recent trip to see my daughter and her family, my grandson said to me while we were playing with puzzles and I frequently did not find the proper piece, “Grandma, you are not very clever at puzzles.” Oh, to be insulted by a four year old.

While we were in London, my grandson had much to say to me, seems he has a lot of opinions (not sure where he got that from). I did not have proper footwear for rainy weather, why didn’t I bring more shoes, I didn’t have a sweater, I can’t throw a ball as well as Jerry and my favorite overheard him telling his friends not to worry about me when we were playing a game similar to tag, I am old and walk VERY slowly so I could not catch them. But I think the cutest thing he said to me when I was telling him I would be leaving and would miss him and have no one to play with. After a few moments he said it was okay I had Jerry to play with when I got home. The innocence of children.

One of my fears is that my grandchildren will not know who I am. The other day my grandson picked out a book he had not read and told my daughter that grandma had given it to him in the car. The last time we were in a car together was December 2019 and I did give him the book he picked out. What a guy!

My daughter was speaking with my three year old grandson about his new two month old sister and how she is a baby. My grandson claims he was never a baby. When his mom showed him a picture of his baby self his reply was: Fake News.
