KENTUCKY HORSE PARK

Yesterday we drove from South Carolina to Kentucky.  On the way we stopped to eat and when we pulled into the lot, we realized we were in the same lot where we used the laundry at the beginning of our trip.

This campground is very nice.  It has 260 spaces, playgrounds, pool, tennis court, basketball court, baseball field, camp store and two laundries.  Also attached to the campground is the Kentucky Horse Park with the International Museum of the Horse.  It is about a 15-minute walk from the campground.   I really enjoyed the Museum and the grounds.

There are a couple of videos about horses and how important they are.  There was a section on Arabian Horses and how they were kept in the owner’s tent because of the heat, like a big pet.  There is a horse cemetery where Derby winners are buried.   Secretariat has statue over his grave.

There are different barns that have different horses.   We saw mini horses and I was able to pet one.

We also saw huge horses and they were so much taller than me and I pet them too.

There was a Mounted Police Barn and we saw them, no petting allowed.

It is winter time now, so lots of things were not operational, but in the summer, you can ride the horses, take a carriage ride pulled by the large horses and every day there are events involving horses.  The center focuses on education about horses.

There are also a lot of Equine Sculptures.  I thought it was all very interesting.

Tomorrow, we drive back to Indiana and the park where we started our trip six weeks ago.  While we are there, we will prepare the motorhome for winter.  December, we start thinking about where we want to go in 2025, only a few states left we have not been to.  This year we have spent 121 days or 4 months in the RV.  Trip to Mississippi in March, May and June around Illinois, July and August in and around Colorado and the last six weeks in the Carolinas.  When I add the trips to the UK and Ireland and our trip in December to NYC, travel this year is just about six months.  We are so blessed to be able to travel.
