STOP 11 – GRANTS PASS, OREGON

Sunday is usually laundry day and yesterday was no exception.   When we left the campground, we stopped at Walmart to stock up on supplies.  Then we stopped in Gold City Oregon, found the laundromat and a café next door.  We started the washer and went in to order breakfast for me, lunch for Jerry.  While we waited for our food which did take a long time to arrive, I went back and forth to the laundry moving clothes from washer to dryer and then to the RV.   It took about an hour to receive our food the café was so crowded and we finished eating the same time the last load came out of the dryer.   Jerry was a bit annoyed at how long the food took to come, but I just said, at least we had a comfortable place to sit and have coffee while we wait for the washer to be done.   I figured I had to wait for the laundry anyway, coffee and a seat was just a lovely bonus.

So, on the list of what could happen next, our radio/camera went out while we were driving.  There is no rear-view mirror in an RV, just some really large wonky side view mirrors.  We have three cameras on the RV, top of back and on each side view mirror.  The radio/camera that came with the RV didn’t even last a year and we replaced it about 4 years ago.  Yesterday when we arrived, Jerry tried to reset the radio, called the company and it was determined the unit failed.  The useful life of the radio/camera units is said to be less than 5 years depending on how much you use it.  We drive a lot and so it needs to be replaced.   This means when I am driving, I have no visibility to the rear, kind of scary.

Jerry tried to find one we could pick up but of course none are in stock.  One is being delivered next week along with our windshield wipers, window crank that broke, chair lever that got lost and a skein of yarn.  Guess which package I am most excited about?  I like to be prepared when I travel so I don’t have to deal with surprises.   Surprise!  There have been quite a few of them this trip.  But we are still having a great time.

Today is day 4 of rain for those of you who are counting.   I am glad it is a steady rain, hopefully it will help the fire fighters.  We are in a very nice county park in the southern part of Oregon, about 65 miles from California.   We filled the tank yesterday assuming that would be the most economical gas, $4.55 a gallon, until we arrive in Arizona on October 18th

This week we probably will not have internet and I am concerned because the fires are burning in the redwood forests.  I really feel uncomfortable not being able to check the CalFire website to see what is happening.  We will be smart and watch for road closings and stop in towns we see to check what is happening.   We are also prepared to skip the forest if we have to.    Talk soon.
