STOP 21 LOS ANGELES, CA

On our first day in LA, we drove almost to San Diego to see Andrew, Krissy and her family.   We had such a nice day visiting with Krissy’s dad and stepmother, her grandmother and grandfather, aunt, sister, brother in laws and nephews.  Everyone made us feel so welcome and there is a lot of RV history in the family.  There was so much to talk about.  There was even a 200-pound tortoise to visit with.  Andrew let me know Walter the tortoise likes dandelion leaves and we were able to find some at the grocery so everyone was happy.   Ernie was with us and he took full advantage of everyone giving him doggy pets and liked it very much.

We have done so many fun things in LA, but the traffic really takes a toll.  My observation about LA traffic is there are way too many cars, at least 6 lanes of traffic on the highway, going way to fast and cutting in and out, while there are so many electronic and non-electronic billboards screaming at you from the side of the road creating so much distraction it is an accident waiting to happen.   Driving is very stressful here and I grew up in NYC and thought that was traffic.   LA brings it to a new level.

I already told you we went to Warner Brother Studios and spent one day going to visit.  That left us two days for site seeing.  Jerry tried to find where he lived 20 years ago, but nothing looked familiar. We then went to Santa Monica Pier which I really loved.  The air had that ocean smell I miss from the east coast.  The pier reminded me of the Jersey shore and it is funny how they are 3,000 miles apart and so much alike.  Even the shore food and games are the same.  I had a blast.   Jerry does not eat pier food as he calls it so we had to eat on land and it was a cute colorful place we found.

We then drove to Malibu and stopped a few places to look at the ocean and things.   We then went to the Getty Museum which was nice but the gardens were the star to me.

Then on to a Chinese restaurant that prepared the food like they do in NY.  It has been a long time since I had that and enjoyed it so much.  By this time, we were beat and google maps and the other navigation apps could not pinpoint our gps location.   It was frustrating not being able to find our way and we ended up getting lost.  It was time to use old fashioned skills to find our way, reading signs and intuition to find our way back.

Today we went down to Hollywood and saw the sign, the Walk of Fame and the famous footprints.   Now I have seen celebrity footprints in both Fargo, ND and Hollywood.  My bucket list is complete!   When we got back, I did 3 loads of laundry and cleaned my home on wheels.

The RV park we are staying in is a bit funky.   The spaces are really close together but they have made an effort to create private spaces with trees, bushes and painted walls.  I took some pictures because I think it is so unique.   They also have two laundry rooms with 6 washers and dryers each so laundry day went quick.

Tomorrow, we leave for Joshua Tree National Park and will be off grid.  Talk to you again when we have internet.  By the way, we have not had any additional days of rain and will be in the desert for about a week, go to the page to check how everyone is doing, but we have only 4 weeks left of travel and need to run into a bit of rain if anyone will be a winner.

  1. Enjoyed meeting the 3 of you and glad to meet face to face. Good your visit in LA was fun despite our horrible traffic situation, reason enough for us to stay close to home. You will be at one of my favorite places, Joshua tree. Looking forward to revisiting it via your pictures. Safe travels.
